Ctrl-copy is an online exhibition distributing work by Juneau Projects, Caitlin Griffiths, Chris Hodson, Yoke and Zoom, Cheap Machines and Mike Cassidy. Artists have submitted new work or adapted existing work for the online environment, which can be freely downloaded from the virtual space of the web into tangible objects.

For half a century artists have been using multiples as a way of distributing art to the masses. Multiples are traditionally 2D prints, 3D sculptures or installation pieces that are signed limited edition made specifically for selling. The work presented in Ctrl-copy pushes the boundaries of the artists multiples by exhibiting free unlimited editions that are available internationally through the Internet.

Ctrl-Copy attempts to bring the artists multiple into the 21st century and question the distribution and value systems in the contemporary art world. The Internet is used as a tool to add a new dimension to the distribution of the artist multiple where a geographically vaster audience has access to the artwork. In this way, the Internet acts as a device to transmit artwork outside of the traditional institutions.

Ctrl-copy allows free access to download an edition of original artwork to personal computers, mobile phones, ipods, burn on to CD or print out. The site will become a sharing site for art, as users are able to upload mashed up versions of the art or their own responses to the project that will be available to download by others. This reflects the many-to many- broadcasting that is so common currently on the net. This availability also questions issues surrounding copyright and ownership of images on the internet.
